Transcription is the process of copying DNA into RNA, and in eukaryotic cells it takes place in the nucleus, where the DNA is housed and the transcription machinery can access the genes. After transcription, the RNA is processed and then moves to the cytoplasm for translation on ribosomes. The cytoplasm is where translation occurs, not transcription, and the endoplasmic reticulum is involved in synthesizing and folding certain proteins rather than making RNA. Mitochondria do have their own transcription apparatus, but for the general set of genes in the cell, transcription is carried out in the nucleus. So, the nucleus is the correct location.
